Would You Rather?

The only negative about yesterday's book club was not having more time to chew and chat!  Rumor has it that some of us went home without eating our lunches because we were so enamored by the conversation.  Who has time to eat when discussing good books?!  For our next 5th grade boys book club get together, please bring a different book to share.  We will be doing something super special!

Up Next!

December's discussion about The Odd Squad: Bully Bait by Michael Fry was delightful!  The boys had such amazing comments and really took the discussion to another level.  I was impressed.  We are really excited to read Tunnels by by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams next.  We will discuss the book on Monday, January 27th during lunch in the media center.  This is an intriguing mystery and adventure that will capture everyone's imagination.  It is a perfect read for winter break!

The media center has plenty of copies for interested book clubbers to check out so stop by to get your copy!

The Odd Squad Bully Bait by Michael Fry

Need a good book? One that is silly but also a page turner (meaning you just can't put it down)?! Well, look no further! This month we will be reading and discussing The Odd Squad Bully Bait by Michael Fry. If you liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, then this book is for you! However, this one is for "mature" readers of course. We will be meeting to discuss it on Monday, December 16th during lunch in the media center. I will bring a treat that ties into the theme of the book.  Please come! Below is a book trailer for the book in case you want a sneak peek before reading:

The First Book Club of the 2013-14 School Year!

We are super excited to welcome back our fifth grade book clubbers and hopefully see some new faces to book club!  Each month, you all will get to vote on the book club book of your choice and we will meet during lunch in the media center to discuss the book that we read.  If you would like to check out a Kindle from the LS media center to read the month's book club book, please have your guardian complete this form.  Or, if you would like to bring in your own e-Reader for book club, please complete the Acceptable Use Policy Form and return it to Lauren Ward.

To kick off this year's book club, we have chosen the first book of the year, which also happens to be a Georgia Book Award nominee.  It is an amazing fantasy called The Apothecary by Maile Meloy.  We will meet on Monday, October 7th in the LS Media Center so please come having read the book and don't forget to bring your lunch.  You may check out a copy of the book from the Media Center or your local public library.  Enjoy the book trailer below for a preview of this month's book:
