Boundless by Kenneth Oppel

As stated by our Media Assistant "that was one of the most sophisticated book club discussions I have ever heard".  I could not agree more, which signifies a great book club pick.  Without a doubt, the sign of a good book club book are those that spark rich conversation, which was certainly had today as we discussed The Path of Names by Ari Goelman!  I can't wait to see what next month brings.

Speaking of next month, we will be meeting on Monday, December 15th to discuss Boundless by Kenneth Oppel.  Check out this awesome book trailer to get a sample of the adventures that await in Boundless:

A few hardback copies are available for check out in the media center, several copies are available via Kindles, and of course we encourage book clubbers to visit their public library.  Enjoy the ride!

The Path of Names by Ari Goelman

We loved chatting about Chomp by Carl Hiassen today!  See here for the fun we had:

Next up is The Path of Names by Ari Goelman.  This was an easy pick because it involves a Jewish summer camp, magic, and mystery- three of our favorite things!  We can't wait to read and discuss.  Our next book club is on Monday, October 27th during lunch.  Please be sure to check out the book from our media center (either hardback or Kindle format) or from your public library and be ready to discuss on October 27th.

A New Year, A New You

If you do one thing all year, make sure you do this: join the 5th grade boys book club!  It is SOOO much fun!  Truly.  It is one of the things I love most.  We travel the world with exciting books that are filled with action, adventure, drama, and magic.  You can't beat it.  This year, we will be voting much earlier on the Georgia Book Award nominees SO we decided to kick off the boys book club with what else but a Georgia Book Award nominee!  We've chosen Chomp by Carl Hiaasen (who also happens to write for adults).  It involves a reality T.V. show, wild animals, and life in the Everglades, Florida.  Check out this awesome book trailer:

What could me more exciting that all that?!  I hope you will join me on this wild ride as we read and then meet to discuss Chomp on Monday, September 22nd in the media center during lunch.  A special treat will be provided for you to "chomp" on.   If you would like to check out a Kindle from the LS media center to read the month's book club book, please have a parent complete this form, which can be turned into the Media Center.  Or, if you would like to bring in your own e-Reader for book club, please complete the Acceptable Use Policy Form and return it to Lauren Ward.
I hope you will join me!  R.S.V.P. to Mrs. Brown here.

Next Book Club Event: Book Bingo

I had SO much fun playing Would You Rather: Choose Your Genre with the 5th graders!  The only thing missing was more time!  Our next book club event will take place on Monday, May 12th during lunch in the Media Center.  We will be sharing our favorite books through a game of Book Bingo.  All 5th grade boys are welcome to join us!

Would You Rather?

The only negative about yesterday's book club was not having more time to chew and chat!  Rumor has it that some of us went home without eating our lunches because we were so enamored by the conversation.  Who has time to eat when discussing good books?!  For our next 5th grade boys book club get together, please bring a different book to share.  We will be doing something super special!
